Does your site have an llms.txt?

Type a domain to see whether it serves /llms.txt, the short plain-text guide AI tools can read to find your main pages. When it does, you get its title, summary, sections, and link count, plus the start of the file. No account needed.

What the checker reads

It asks for https://yoursite.com/llms.txt and reads it the way the llms.txt proposal lays the file out.

  • Found or notWhether /llms.txt answers with a text file. A page that sends back your HTML home page or a 404 page does not count.
  • TitleThe first line starting with # , which names the site or product.
  • SummaryThe first line starting with > before any section, a sentence on what the site is.
  • Sections and linksEach ## heading with the number of markdown links under it, and the links in the whole file.
  • The file itselfThe first few thousand characters, shown as plain text, so you can read what AI tools get.

How to write an llms.txt

An llms.txt is a markdown file at the root of your site. It starts with a # title and a > summary, can have a few plain lines of notes, then lists your most useful pages under ## headings, one markdown link per line with a short note after it. Keep it short: it is a map, not a copy of the site.

## Optional

Serve it as plain text (text/plain or text/markdown) at /llms.txt, not as an HTML page. The "Optional" section is, by the proposal, the part a tool can skip when it is short on room.

llms.txt is a proposal, not a standard every AI tool reads. It costs little to add and helps the tools and coding agents that do look for it, but it does not replace letting AI crawlers in. Check that with the AI crawler checker.

llms.txt is one of many checks. The full free audit also reads your pages, sitemap, robots.txt, page speed, social previews, structured data, and email records. In LopeBase it runs again whenever you like, for every site you run.

What is llms.txt?

A plain-text markdown file at /llms.txt that tells AI tools what a site is and where its main pages are. It was proposed in 2024 as a short map that fits in a model's context, unlike a full sitemap or the pages themselves.

Does Google use llms.txt?

Google has not said it uses llms.txt for search, and an llms.txt does not change how you rank. It is read by some AI tools and coding agents that look for it.

Why does it say not found when I have one?

The file must answer at /llms.txt on your domain with a 200 status and plain text. If your server sends back an HTML page for any address it does not know, the checker counts that as no file, since an AI tool would get your HTML too.

What about llms-full.txt?

Some sites add /llms-full.txt with the full text of their docs in one file. It is optional, and this checker reads only /llms.txt.

Do you store the domain I check?

No. The check runs once and the answer comes straight back to this page. Nothing is saved and no email is sent.
